LifeVU is a social networking platform, set up by an Israeli start-up, that revolves around memorializing the departed rather than merely giving the living a chance to get to know one another. The Jerusalem-based platform is the brainchild of friends Elazar Cohen and Shlomo Silverstone, who came up with the idea while at university.
The idea came about after the two realized that there was a dearth of services geared towards remembering those that have passed away, and was solidified after Cohen's sister tragically passed away.
LifeVU essentially builds a profile page for each person that helps to preserve their entire legacy. Viewers can log in through their Facebook profile and share pictures and memories of the deceased. The site also enables users to light a memorial candle for the departed and send a virtual wreath.
