At first, second and third glance, Lauren Pelc-McArthur's artworks look like abstract paintings. That might be the case to a certain extent, but there is more to them than meets the eye. Enamored with the idea and look of computer glitches since her time studying at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, the recent graduate delved deeper into the digital world after stumbling upon the writings of glitch guru Rosa Menkman.
Now on an artist residency in the Netherlands, Lauren Pelc-McArthur explores both the digital and the analog in her visually striking artworks. It might be hard to decipher what brushstrokes have been made on the computer and in real life, but that is the point.
