Visitors to Lady Bird Lake in Austin will be pleasantly surprised when they encounter the recently constructed 'Lady Bird Loos.'
When the nonprofit 'Trail Foundation' surveyed guests on what improvements to the park would hold the most impact, most people requested well lit, well ventilated safe bathrooms that also delivered an area to rest in the shade. Knowing this, the Trail Foundation enlisted Austin-based Mell Lawrence Architects to construct the new public restrooms.
What they delivered was two steel and concrete constructed buildings that are more akin to a piece of modern art then a public bathroom. These low-maintenance, unfinished buildings will patina over time so they will always fit into their surroundings. Nicknamed the Lady Bird Loos in honor of their location, these architectural restrooms are functional and design-friendly.
