The Hawaiian fast casual restaurant chain La Tour Café, recently teamed up with a company called Eco-Products to solve the pressing issue of restaurant waste. The result of the partnership is an ingenious new container that solves two major issues.
The new containers at La Tour Café are eco-friendly boxes that can be used while dining in or for takeout. Unlike plastic or foam boxes, La Tour Café now offers containers made from wheat straw, which is a 100 percent renewable resource. Because the new containers can serve double duty, La Tour Café hopes to dramatically reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfills.
The sustainable containers were specially designed by Eco-Products and the design features strategic vent holes and ridges to keep food warm and fresh. Additionally, the containers are also durable, grease resistant, compostable and both freezer and microwave safe.
