The limited silhouette is an honored design of the brand's German heritage as it stems from a small village where Johannes Birkenstock resided in 1774.
There are only 250 pairs of Kyoto Tradition sandals that will ever be made because of their unique construction. Instead of usual grain leather or suede, the shoes are crafted from deerskin leather that is sourced from the last Altsämisch tannery in Germany, Kolesch. Altsämisch is a historic German process of tanning leather using fish oil, water, and salt only. Altsämisch leather was used to create leather short pants known as lederhosen.
