While a recent Saharan dust storm caused chaos across Europe, KFC Spain managed to put a positive spin on the event and turn it into a clever advertising campaign.
In mid-March of 2022, a dust storm blanketed cities across Europe and tinted the skies a striking red/orange hue. Sapin was hit particularly hard, with layers of dirt covering cars across the country. During this time, KFC Spain encouraged fans to "draw the KFC logo with their hands on their "breaded" cars. In exchange, the brand promised two free Original Recipe chicken strips from any of its 76 KFC Auto restaurants. KFC Auto is essentially a drive-thru, so the idea was that fans could drive right up to the restaurant with their "breaded" vehicles.
In total, over 1,000 Spanish residents took advantage of the offer and made the most of the dust storm.
