EXPANDED HOLIDAY features 12 augmented reality versions of the 'Companions' KAWS installation. The sculptures are a virtual continuation of the popular artist's large-scale inflatable travelling series. In addition, the digital release has been tailored to meet the climate of the COVID-19 pandemic.
EXPANDED HOLIDAY was made possible through a collaboration with digital art platform Acute Art. Users can enjoy the experience in 11 cities across the globe through the Acute Art mobile application.
While originally, the collaboration was going to offer subscription-based editions of the KAWS installations for $7 per week or $30 per month, as well as "25 limited-edition sculptures for permanent acquisition for $10,000 each," this has been delayed. Instead, Acute Art and KAWS made the 'Companions' virtual sculptures free until April 15th to encourage people to stay home.
