The 'Karton' furniture collection has been designed by Germany-based Illya Goldman Gubin as a series of decor pieces that make use of an unexpected material for a decidedly shabby-chic aesthetic.
The collection includes a bench, chair, stool and table all crafted out of cardboard boxes that have been strengthen using fiberglass and epoxy resin. The final result is a series of furniture pieces that resemble packages one might receive in the mail, which are suitable for being sat on and used like conventional decor pieces in the home. The pieces are available now for purchase at 1stDibs.
Gubin spoke on the childhood inspiration behind the 'Karton' furniture collection saying, "Our past relation with such ever-present material as cardboard now enters our present again. Past daydreams thrust into realities."
