What better way is there to inspire creativity than to apply thoughtful design to art supplies? This Karakalem Pencils packaging project was undertaken by Doğukan Karapınar of Marmara University in Istanbul as a way to jazz up the often dull-looking mass-produced implements.
The very name of the product range was derived from the description of charcoal drawing pencils in the Turkish language. Meanwhile, this literal approach was complemented further in the representational patterning on the writing utensils. The student's graphics help you to discern the thickness and darkness of each lead core, as suggested by the size of the black spots and the lines around the shafts. Karakalem Pencils packaging also distinguishes the H series from the B series of scribblers through the use of stripes and polka-dots, respectively.
