When describing the João Barriga 'Blackout' series that was unveiled during ModaLisboa, the name of Lisbon's fashion week, the designer said "Oversized silhouettes conceal who we are and what we feel, and the color black is worn as a shield against the world."
With this, the use of chains as necklaces and modest styles make a lot of sense, given that the clothing comes from an exaggerated visualization of what one might do in self-protective effort.
In order to portray the theme, models walked the runway in all-black ensembles, which draped over the men and women artfully. To diversify it, the aforementioned chained necklaces were placed over shirts and layers of apparel were added to bring more depth to João Barriga's designs.
