Jonah Samson, a photographer and painter, has taken found photos and created a dark, humorous take on otherwise bland poses.
The collection, "Paintings from the Pleasantville Historical Society," shows Samson's usual take on sexuality and violence in his art. Each piece has a title that helps dictate to the viewer the historical story of the character, such as "Beatrix: What began as a dare at a drunken frat party, soon developed into a lifelong private obsession." My personal favourite, however, is the one captioned, "Blake's renewed fondness for cocaine was to be the ruin of yet another Mahoney family portrait."
Samson's designs are morbid, though, as the Pleasantville collection features decapitated couples, head-shattering portraits and gagged ladies. The Jonah Samson Pleasantville collection has an unseen unique ability to create dark humor and bring life back into old sepia-toned family portraits.
