School Lockdown Sensors

Jim Skorpik Designed a Range of Sensors to Protect Children

Jim Skorpik, an electrical engineer who previously developed sensors to detect a missile's readiness for combat, has developed a new system that can keep kids safe during a school shooting. Skorpik's new sensor has already been licensed to EAGL Technology out of Albuquerque, which has installed and tested the sensors at Hermosa Elementary School in Artesia, New Mexico.

The sensors currently have the ability to alert authorities, turn cameras to relevant areas, set off alarms and lock doors all by detecting the sounds of a gunshot. The sensors themselves are quite compact, about the size of a pack of gum, allowing them to be easily hidden and installed in almost any location. The entire system is fully automatic and does not require any human intervention to activate alarms or send the school into lockdown. Jim Skorpik was first inspired to create these sensors after three of his grandchildren experienced a gun-related school lockdown.
Trend Themes
