Photographer J.D. ‘Okhai Ojeikere has made it his mission to find and photograph some of the most stunning hairstyles, then put them into a truly bewildering photography collection.
He has traveled to Nigeria where some women spend a lot of time creating intricate, complicated hairstyles. For some of us, putting our hair up in a ponytail in the morning seems like a lot of work, never mind making these creations.
Some styles are intricately weaved, while others are standing straight up or are downright unusually shaped. All of the hair featured has been pulled, twisted and tied in order to create the end result.
Even though the focus of this series is on homemade hair-dos, J.D. ‘Okhai Ojeikere has managed to keep the art aesthetic behind his pieces. He used black and white photography, and by keeping the ladies faceless, was able to evoke the emotion of the unknown.
