Warner Bros' MultiVersus is Back with Jason Voorhees

Jason Voorhees, the iconic antagonist from the Friday the 13th franchise, has been introduced as a new playable character in Warner Bros. Games’ MultiVersus. The addition of Voorhees was announced through a cinematic launch trailer, which showcased the character alongside other new and existing members of the game’s roster. MultiVersus is a free-to-play platform fighter game that features a diverse cast of characters from various Warner Bros.-owned properties, drawing comparisons to Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. series. Voorhees, known for his imposing presence and relentless pursuit of his victims in the Friday the 13th series, brings a unique horror element to the game’s lineup. His inclusion in MultiVersus was revealed as part of the game’s Season 1, titled "Puns & Villainy," and he is available to players at the game’s launch.

MultiVersus has undergone significant development since its initial beta release, with Player First Games, the developers, rebuilding the game to enhance online play and visuals, now utilizing Unreal Engine 5. The game supports full cross-play and cross-progression across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. The roster for MultiVersus is expansive, featuring characters such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Harley Quinn from DC; Shaggy and Velma from Scooby-Doo; Bugs Bunny and Marvin the Martian from Looney Tunes; and now, Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th. The game’s approach to including characters from different genres and universes underlines Warner Bros. Games’ strategy to leverage its wide array of intellectual properties, offering players a unique and varied fighting game experience.
