Lyft will now be completing essential item deliveries for various government organizations and businesses. Completing item deliveries allows the platform to provide employment for its drivers, while also meeting the increasing demand for deliveries. Lyft named the program Essential Deliveries, and it will transport different goods like meals, produce, medical supplies, hygiene items and more.
The company states that drivers will follow contact-free protocols, and they will make similar wages to what they normally would have earned. Currently, Lyft’s partners for the initiative include Dole Packaged Foods, as well as the Army of Angeles. Lyft is also in talks with other organizations located in Atlanta and North Carolina, to provide food to lower-income areas.
