The Invisible Borders art installation is a stunning canopy that can be found rippling into the traditional Cortile d’Onore courtyard of the Università degli Studi di Milano. Although made up of colorful ribbons, it looks as though it were a large curtain being blown through a window by a strong wind. The visual is imaginative and powerful.
Created by MAD Architects for the 2016 Milan Design Week, the Invisible Borders art installation is part of the "Open Borders" exhibition by the Italian magazine Interni. Through Invisible Borders, the designers were seeking to "alter the perception of space." Ma Yansong explains further, "Our installation blurs the boundaries between the traditional and the contemporary. You see the difference in each end, but the transition is very organic."
