'Intimate Illusions' is the title of Hikaru Cho's latest series. A body painter based in Tokyo, Japan who's most well-known for her work which presents stunning optical illusions, Hikaru Cho manages to thwart the expectations of her viewers each and every time.
In past projects, the artist adapted the bodies of her subjects to have them appear as if their heads were decapitated, their skin was cracking like hardened dirt, or that their faces were splitting straight down the middle.
For Intimate Illusions however, she takes a less macabre turn, making for an end result that's poetic and beautiful. Although many of the works in the series feature robotic components, one that especially stands out depicts a woman with a gaping hole through her torso, which has another woman's arm sticking through it as if in a hug.
