The Ideas City Festival is a New York City event put on by the city's New Museum. Serving as a satellite hub throughout the festival, the ETH Zurich pavilion was constructed entirely out of upcycled materials including shredded beverage cartons transformed into fabricated boards.
The Ideas City Festival pavilion was constructed between two buildings in New York City's East Village. In order to further reduce the environmental impact of the pop-up structure, ETH Zurich used packaging straps to connect and secure each of the components. The fabricated boards were supplied by ReWall, an American company producing such panels out of shredded cartons.
Through this project, ETH Zurich was aiming to communicate the need to view used materials as a resource in order to lessen the environmental impact of construction.
