The Hyperloop concept is part of entrepreneur Elon Musk's audacious plan to revolutionize how public transportation works in big, major cities. The project is now set to take advantage of the vacuum technology expertise of Swiss company Oerlikon Leybold Vacuum, which has been working in the industry for over one hundred years.
Oerlikon Leybold Vacuum knows a thing or two about vacuum technologies, having contributed these towards the Large Hadron Collider project as well as to Aston Martins and Ferraris.
The team's first challenge will be to develop the vacuum technology for an 8-km test track in Quay Valley, California in 2016. This test track will aim to show that Hyperloop can indeed be safely and effectively used in the real world with real passengers.
