Linear Labs has created the Hunstable Electric Turbine, which could be pivotal in the way electric motors can be used. Linear Labs indicates that the Hunstable Electric Turbine will be able to increase the output of motors, "For the same size, same weight, same volume, and the same amount of input energy into the motor, we will always produce... two to three times the torque output of any electric motor in the world." If the turbine is able to provide the increased output, then its design could be widely adopted to improve electric vehicles.
Conventional electric motors use either a radial flux or axial flux design. However, the Hunstable Electric Turbine combines both radial and axial flux designs. The turbine also has a winding design which allows less copper to be used, which makes it lighter.
