The Human Connectome Project Seeks to Better Understand the Human Brain

The Human Connectome Project was created by the National Institutes of Health who funded the project with $40 million dollars back in 2010. The goal of the Human Connectome Project is to "create a database of the structure and activity of a healthy brain."

The Human Connectome Project examined the brains of 1,200 volunteers who underwent scans, resulting in many high-resolution images of the brain's connections. While the images of the Human Connectome Project has many important scientific implications for our species as whole, right now I can't help look at the pretty colors. The swirling colored images of brain pathways and connective tissues are mesmerizing and poetic in their beauty.

The results of out attempts to better understand our own brain are certainly beautiful and further underscores the philosophy that science is indeed art.
