Empowering Body Painting Initiatives

The Human Canvas Project Helps to Combat Negative Body Image

On Monday, May 16th, a Toronto-based initiative called the Human Canvas Project is hosting a gala to celebrate its fourth successful year. Not only will the gala celebrate all the work the project has done thus far, but it will also give guests an opportunity to sign up for a one-on-one body painting experience of their own.

The Human Canvas Project was founded in 2012, by artist Matti McLean. The idea behind the project was to use body painting as a way for people to feel better in their skin and combat negative ideas about body image. To celebrate four years of body painting, the organization is hosting a gala at Toronto's Glad Day Bookshop. The event will include live music, theatrical performances and a screening of a film that features footage from the project.

While there are a number of organizations tackling body image in the media, the Human Canvas Project is working to help people embrace their body in a creative and artistically beautiful way.
