Leica, the iconic German camera company has teamed up with Chinese telecommunication giant in producing a new range of mobile phones. This long-term partnership between Huawei and Leica aims to reinvent the entire smartphone photography sector, with what the company terms as "visual world renaissance."
Huawei has begun to really make a name for itself in the Western marketplace, and has made the big announcement at the 2016 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona just a few days ago. Huawei has been the third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world since 2012, after Samsung and Apple. It is also the first Chinese mobile phone company to have sold more than 100 million devices in a year.
Leica CEO Oliver Kaltner says: "The strategic alliance between HUAWEI and Leica Camera demonstrates the desire of two rapidly growing and globally active brands to continuously push the envelope of the technologically possible."
Not too much is known about upcoming mobiles from Huawei and Leica, but reports have indicated that it will include a 5.2-inch 1080p display, the proprietary Kirin 955 SoC processor, 4GB RAM, a 2,900mAh battery and a 12-megapixel snapper will be included. Fingerprint sensors and a dual camera feature have also been spotted in leaked images.
