The next time you're on a business trip or vacation you might notice a little extra added security feature at your hotel that you’re probably going to love. Plastic key cards are already on their way out at the Plaza Hotel in New York, instead they will be using RFRID cards. Other hotels are looking toward more Mission Impossible-esque security features such as fingerprint scan and iris scans. The up-side to this is you’ll never have to make sure you grab a plastic key before you leave and you won’t have to worry about losing it. Other optional methods of security are using a cell phone to dial yourself into your room as well as a paper card that is more environmentally friendly.
The main goal of hotels looking at other options for security is that they want to provide the best service and security for their guests as well as cut back on waste caused by the ever abundant plastic key card that may only get used for 2-3 nights and than disposed of.
Although the technology won’t be readily available and affordable for all hotels to begin with, if these new features get some momentum we might be seeing them a lot more in the very near future.
