The Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is bringing in a variety of automated new cleaning procedures to make traveling amid and post COVID-19 safer. The new procedures include cleaning robots, temperature checks, and antimicrobial coatings to reduce the spread of the virus–and other germs for that matter–to ensure the well-being of staff and passengers.
CLeanTech is the full-body disinfection booth being implemented that takes 40 seconds to kill any viruses and/or bacteria found on clothing and the body. The Hong Kong International Airport is also testing antimicrobial coating to destroy bacteria, viruses, and germs on handles, seats, check-in counters, elevator buttons, baggage trolleys, and more. This, paired with autonomous cleaning robots, will ensure all services are disinfected at HKIA.
Steven Yiu, Deputy Director, Service Delivery of the AA, said, "The safety and wellbeing of airport staff and passengers are always our first priority. Although air traffic has been impacted by the pandemic, the AA spares no effort in ensuring that the airport is a safe environment for all users. We will continue to look into new measures to enhance our cleaning and disinfection work."
