David Windestal has been dreaming of sending a homemade RC plane into space for years, and he just achieved that goal.
The homemade RC plane that Windestal sent to orbit not only made it to the fringes of outer space, it also returned safely, toting some stunning images thanks to its attached GoPro camera. The model Multiplex FunJET that Windestal used also was equipped with a video transmitter and a GPS tracker. Windestal was able to equip the homemade RC plane with a balloon to ensure a safe landing back to Earth. Stunningly enough, he was able to get the plane to a staggering height of 100,000 feet above sea level, which is a similar height that Felix Baumgartner jumped from in his recent record shattering space jump back to earth.
