Unconventional Dutch artist Hilde Koenders creatively uses dried tulip flower petals to create abstract portraits in his art series called ‘Faces.’
‘Faces’ was inspired by the tulip obsession that grew in the Netherlands this past year. Koenders art installation pays tribute to the beauty of tulip flowers with the creation of these interesting faces made with expertly arranged tulip flowers. Koenders uses various petal colors such as red, yellow and blue to construct the abstract visages. Because the petals are dried, the transparency of the flower petal ranges adding another visual dynamic to the piece. The petals have been cleverly stacked and arranged to replicate eyes, mouths and noses. From afar, these flowery faces are reminiscent of colorful clowns. The result is a beautiful collection of botanical faces.
