'8000Kicks,' the hemp shoe startup, has announced the 'HEMP Shoe,' a piece of comfortable, eco-conscious footwear in celebration of 4/20. The shoes were developed following a largely successful Kickstarter campaign where 8000Kicks raised over 25x its original goal of $10,000. This shoe also features the world's first insole made from 100% hemp. Hemp was selected due to its sustainable qualities. Not only does the material require less water and fertilizer than other fiber crops, but it also naturally captures carbon from the atmosphere and it provides nutrients to the soil around it.
8000Kicks covered the shoe in a proprietary wax coating to make the HEMP Shoe weatherproof, as hemp is not entirely waterproof on its own. Additionally, the shoe is vegan and 99% biodegradable, with the 1% coming from upcycled rubber used for the shoe's soles.
