American design studio Heliotrope Architects created an extension to a heritage 1930s home that was originally made by a Norwegian ship captain. The home was made by ship captain Ole E Nelson who modeled it after his childhood home in Bergen. The original home was made with a high level of craftsmanship and kept in optimal conditions -- all of the wood used was selected carefully and the ones that didn't meet his standards were sent back.
The team speaks about the design process, stating "The exterior finishes of brick and stained wood are warm and subdued, matching the tone of the old house and blending into the landscape. Large expanses of glass showcase the landscape from the interior and allow the new building to glow at night."
