Gripping Gang Portraits

Jono Rotman Photographed Haunting Portraits of Mob Members

Photographer Jono Rotman shares a collection of haunting portraits of New Zealand's gang called 'Might Mongrel Mob.' The images reveal a group of men wearing dark clothing and hats, masks or hoods to cover their faces. They show little skin, but what can be seen is covered in ink. Many of the visible tattoos reflect their commitment to the mob.

The photographs show individual men belonging to the mob. These gangs are viewed as a negative influence on society. A few images show two young boys posing with one of the gang members, which proves the family ties and commitment shared by the men.

This powerful series of haunting portraits is a raw look into the faces of criminals who have made themselves and their mob infamous in New Zealand. It is important to see images such as these because much of society is not exposed to the foreign lifestyles of these mob members.
