Astronaut-Inspired Watch Winders

The Gyroscopic Watch Winder Spins 360 Degrees in All Directions

The Gyroscopic Watch Winder imitates the training used by astronauts to prevent spatial disorientation to wind your watch up for the world outside.

The $18,000 watch winder, designed by the German-based Dottling, is the first device to spin and rotate the watch 360 degrees in all directions. While the design might seem exuberant, the design, while intended to mimic the aerotrims experienced by astronauts, the gyroscopic watch winder in fact closely resembles the movements that the wrist creates. This winding movement is created by the winder's three axes rotating simultaneously.

The watch winder is propelled by an electric motor, yet is a quiet invention that also has four LED lights that light up the rotational path with white lights. It stops automatically to prevent the watch from over-winding.
