Injection molded recycled PET (rPET) cups will be displayed by Greiner Packaging at the Interpack trade exhibition, which runs from May 4–10 in Düsseldorf, Germany. The packaging provider has collaborated with Engel, a producer of injection molding equipment, and mold maker Brink to pioneer new rPET cups. rPET may now be used to manufacture thin-walled injection molding cups, which were previously only achievable with PP. Greiner hopes that new opportunities will be created through the use of rPET in injection molding, particularly for food applications.
"It is our goal to increase the rPET ratio up to 100%," Diensthuber commented in an interview. "But the more recycled material we use, the greater attention we must pay to ensure a constant production process for optimum product quality, which, thanks to our material, injection molding, and technical expertise, we will be able to manage."
