Residents living in Ontario who own electric and hybrid vehicles will now get recognition from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation via special green vehicle plates.
Ontario is using incentives like the green vehicle plates to encourage consumers to choose electric cars, in the hopes that by 2020 one out of every 20 vehicles will be eco-friendly. The license plates will also qualify drivers of green vehicles for designated parking spots at the University of Toronto and Wal-Mart Canada, access to provincial recharging facilities, and the use of Ontario’s High-Occupancy Vehicle lanes until 2015 (even if there is only one person in the car).
