Glucose-Monitoring Contact Lenses

Noviosense Modernizes Diabetes Monitoring Systems

Finger prick glucose monitors may be the norm for most individuals with diabetes, but Noviosense is hoping to change that with its glucose-monitoring contact lenses. Sitting just on a user's lower eyelid, the-glucose monitoring contact lenses measure the tears sitting on the eyelid. Shaped like a spring-like coil, the wearable tech is accurate enough that 95 percent of its data is either as good as blood or close enough to be acceptable.

The glucose-monitoring contact lenses work by tapping into "basal tears," the continuous stream of tears that do not require any sort of stimulation. The wearable is also designed to be quite comfortable and can easily sit on the eyelid for long periods of time without drying out or popping out when users rub their eyes.
