A recent partnership between Shell and Microsoft will see the introduction of a gas station AI meant to help spot smokers behind the gas pump. Hoping to increase safety and reduce stress, this new AI will help limit the chances of potential explosive occurrences. The gas station AI will use Microsoft’s Azure IoT Edge cloud intelligence and will be capable of quickly identifying and dealing with smokers at the gas station.
Aiding the AI is a collection of high-tech cameras positioned around the gas station. These cameras then feed information into the Azure cloud, which powers the deep learning AI. This AI can then identify whether a person is actually smoking and can then send alerts to the station manager who can shut down the pump remotely.
The gas station AI is already being tested at two Shell stations in Thailand and Singapore.
