'Gamut' by Damien Ravn is an evolution from the medieval creations of his "BEN.NA" collection, in which each garment seems to be a response to the early 20th century’s school of cubism.
The collection is characterized by pleats that are reminiscent of Raymond Duchamp-Villon and André Mare’s Le Maison Cubiste from Salon d’Autumne of 1912. Citing the modernist vanguard as his inspiration, Ravn translates architecture and art into remarkably structural pieces.
The dynamic garments come in a palette of feminine neutrals and pastels that are juxtaposed with bold accents along with features of a distinctly Scandinavian aesthetic. "I love working with hi-tech materials, but I also like to mix it with something very classical, like silks and precious silk velvets. I love subtle contrasts, I find it to be a very essential aspect of every good design," says the designer of his oeuvre.
'Gamut' by Damien Ravn was photographed at the BOZAR in Bruseels by Koen Vernimmen and stars model Arina Yalaletdinova. The Norwegian designer is currently running for Scandinavian Elle’s New Nordic Talent of the Year 2014, a democratic initiative that names an annual "Design Star" based on crowd-sourced votes.
