Rehab robots can be an important tool to help people who have suffered physical injuries or undergone major surgeries to help find their feet again, but these technologies only work if patients are motivated to use them, which is precisely what this Israeli-made game-playing robot does.
Developed by a group of scientists at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, this rehab robot is capable of playing tic tac toe, the classic game that involves drawing Xs and Os on a piece of paper. However, this robot puts a twist on traditional tic-tac-toe by using plastic cups and a wooden grid instead of pen and paper.
Accordingly, playing tic-tac-toe with this robot makes for excellent rehabilitation for people recovering from upper-limb systems. For this reason, the rehab robot is set to be tested with recovering stroke victims, at which point it is poised to show a lot of promise in the use of game-playing robots to aid in rehabilitation.
