Sandpaper-Adorned Furniture

The 'Grit' Furniture Series Embraces Sandpaper Patterns

'Grit' is a furniture series, conceived by designer Avi Fedida, that embeds sandpaper patterns into stool, table and shelf designs. Sandpaper is used in construction processes to remove small amounts of material from surfaces, making them smoother to touch and cleaner on the eye. But what's interesting about this furniture collection is that sandpaper is actually embedded into the furniture for aesthetic purposes, and not used purely to smooth wooden surfaces.

Avi Fedida ground a rich variety of wood onto sandpaper as it rotated around a machine. This helped to create a surface decorated with spiral patterns, which was then integrated into the white oak of the furniture pieces themselves.

This furniture series is inspired by Fedida's love of objects that develop character over time.
