A new furniture sculpture titled 'Not Now' by artist Michael Beitz continues his tradition of exploring the architectural elements of the table. 'Not Now' is a 28-foot long wooden table that swells into a giant knot at its center.
The playful take on the dining table can be seen as symbolic of the non-spatial distance between those sitting at each end of the table. While Beitz's work often focuses on the warped interpretation of furniture, he also explores other everyday objects. While the knot makes it almost impossible to communicate with the person at the other end, there is a tiny loop through which one can channel their gaze.
Previously, Beitz has created tables with a sharp hill in the center, a vertical loop picnic table and a table that resembles a roller coaster.
