The app uses SHORE (Sophisticated High-Speed Object Recognition) software, initially developed to aid communication for people with disabilities.
The SHORE technology contains a database of over 10,000 faces. It can gauge emotions such as happiness, sadness, anger and surprise and display this information on a screen. It can also estimate gender and age, a feature that could have wide-ranging applications in market research and gaming. The Fraunhofer Google Glass app has been tested through the Google Glass Explorer Program, but a launch date for the app has not yet be set.
