The notion of a smartphone without an LCD might sound backwards; and how exactly would it look? Well, the Frame Phone takes similar dimensions to your iPhone or your Android touchscreen mobiles; however, it features an empty center where one would expect the display and the inner components of the device to be.
Jason J. Lee's design proposes the use of projection technology instead. The picture would be emitted from the minimalist perimeter and cast upon the user's hand or the surface on which it rests. All electronic parts of the cellphone would be encased in the grippable, empty rectangle. The "hollow-gram" Frame Phone would be lighter than existing models and would be much easier to pocket. Its pliable material would even permit manipulation so that the smartphone could be used as a stylus.
