Fashionable Airline Events (INTERVIEW)

A Sneak Peek at Air Canada Rouge's Crisp Flight Uniforms

Air Canada Rouge, a brand new undertaking by the world-renowned airline, has just revealed its sleek new flight uniforms in celebration of its upcoming July 2013 launch. The Rouge branch of Air Canada aims to create a luxury vacation experience for travelers from the moment their plane takes off. By providing travelers with the utmost extravagance and relaxation, Air Canada Rouge hopes to change people's view of planes as a means of getting to a destination, encouraging them to see airplane travel as a quintessential part of every relaxing vacation.

Trend Hunter was lucky enough to sit down with three of the creative minds behind Air Canada Rouge's crisp uniforms: Renee Smith-Valade, the Vice President of Customer Service, Grace Lee, the lead makeup artist for Maybelline New York, and John Fluevog, the luxury shoe designer.

Renee Smith-Valade, VP of Customer Service Air Canada Rouge

1.What was the inspiration behind Air Canada Rouge?

Air Canada Rouge was launched in December 2012, and it’s really designed to offer an alternative for vacation travel, for people who are looking to go on an airline that has the Air Canada brand, all of the advantages of an Air Canada vacation, but is really focused on providing an in-flight experience for vacation travel.

2.Where will Air Canada Rouge be travelling?

We will be travelling to destinations in the Caribbean as well as in Europe, and we will be adding more destinations to our route network as we grow. We’re starting our flights on July 4, 2013, with four aircrafts. We’re growing really fast, so we’ll be adding a lot of new destinations and we just finished training our first class of flight attendants who were just introduced to their new uniforms in their training today.

5.What's different about Air Canada Rouge compared to other airlines?

Most people, when they get on a flight, want to just get to their destination. What we want to create onboard is the feeling that you’ve already started your vacation on the plane. So it should start to feel like a luxurious, vacation-y experience when you’re onboard, and that’s really what the uniforms are designed to create.

3.What’s Maybelline’s role in Air Canada Rouge?

We basically just collaborated with Air Canada to design and execute a really fresh, on-trend makeup look for the flight attendants and also a grooming regimen for the male attendants. It’s really just to make them look polished, professional and fashion-forward.

4.What style of shoes are the flight attendants wearing today?

The shoes that the flight attendants are wearing are quintessential Fluevog. They have all the kind of characteristics I like about shoes. They’re very comfortable, they’re easy to walk in, they’re sturdy, they’re protective around the front, and I think they’re interesting and different.
