Ant-Free Picnic Platters

The FERN Contemporary Dishes Platform is for Meal-Sharing Amongst People

While al fresco eating is a great opportunity to chow down leisurely and socially, the issue of greedy insects is always on the menu. The FERN Contemporary Dishes Platform was designed to encourage the bonding experience of an outdoor meal and does so successfully by fending off pesky intruders.

Yonathan Halim was conceptually inspired by the familial food culture of Sarawak, Malaysia, and also formally influenced by the houses on stilts that one finds there. The idea behind the assembly of this tray was to elevate it above the grass on little pillars and to fill those supports with organic bug repellant made from mint, cinnamon, coffee and citrus peels. A hungry group can then be left to enjoy the spread served up by the FERN Contemporary Dishes Platform, accommodating up to six plates, several cups and condiments.
