Farmingo is attempting to make it easier for the Internet age to eat farm-fresh produce. The site connects people to local farmers in their area, allowing them to buy organic products from local farmers online. Farmingo seeks to give consumers an alternative from the produce created in industrial factory farms.
Farmingo users start by finding the farmers in their local food community. Once found, buyers can browse the virtual farmers market and select which produce they want to buy. The produce is then delivered to a local drop site within 48 hours. The farmer gets 80 percent of the proceeds and Farmingo takes a 10 percent cut. The site has already rolled out service to San Francisco and New York City. Seattle, Portland, Denver, Chicago and Philadelphia are expected to join SF and NYC in the coming year.
