British-Italian architect Francesco Paini presents his new design project aptly dubbed the Family Project. Back in 2017, he attended the Frieze Art Fair in London and noticed a small drawing that caught his attention; it was created by American artist Saul Steinberg in the 50s. The drawing showcased rectilinear structures that captured the concept of a family and this drawing inspired the Family Project.
It is a range of custom furniture that caters to families and relationships. All of the designs are made as a representation of a family with a focus on its intended use. Saul Steinberg speaks about the design, stating "I try to use a very reduced alphabet of signs to express ideas that can be very complex or complicated, which is why drawing is very close to poetry, which uses ordinary words to explain very complex matters."
