Exotic Guitars

Peter McGilton's Extreme Series

With the electric guitar and motorcycle practically being first cousins, anything that merges them both has got to rock, right?

Well, it does in the case of these Exotic Guitars from Peter McGilton. Artist, inventor and winner of a national sculpture award, McGilton clearly had shed loads of fun on his Extreme Guitar series. This is not exactly what you would expect from someone with a Masters Degree in Fine Arts, and postgraduate studies in classical instrument construction. Of course, it was not just the merging of motorcycles and guitars which inspired him, as you can see from the gallery.

To me, his pieces are as much art as they are musical instruments. They incorporate advanced instrument construction techniques for the ultimate results in sound and playability. It is a nice thought that these guitars were constructed using classical instrument building techniques, not just existing models that were customized.

McGilton says these are the instruments of the next century, and I totally agree. ROCK ON. Instruments of the next century should be made with woods like purpleheart and gems like rubies and diamonds. These pieces are clearly works of art; his classical instrument training clearly shines through.
