These 'Makerspace' Structures in Ghana Will Re-purpose 'E-Waste'

Architect Yasmine Abbas started the 'Agbogbloshie Makerspace Platform' in order to target "e-waste" and create an avenue that positively impacts the community.

The makerspace aims to reduce e-waste by recycling and re-purposing thrown out electronics. It will provide "hubs" for local peoples to work and learn new skills in technology. The hubs will be made from scratch with recycled materials in the Agbogbloshie scrapyard and so far a mobile building has been constructed in less than two hours.

The "open community workshop lab's" main focus is to recycle, create, share and trade and at the end of the day reduce the amount of waste in the community. The area is the "world's largest dumping site for e-waste" and local community practices such as this project aim to lessen this problem.
