Working together, Samuel Uebersax and Andreas Bhend have created designs and a working prototype for a transforming wheelchair called the eV Electric Wheelchair.
The eV Electric Wheelchair gets its name from its V-shaped aluminium frame that allows the driver to control the vehicle in one of two modes: indoor mode and sport mode. With indoor mode, the length of the wheelchair is the same as any other wheelchair and as its name suggests, it is to be used when indoors and at slow speed. In the sport mode, the wheelchair transforms to become 40 cm longer and 30 cm wider. In this mode eV becomes much more stable and easier to control at higher speeds.
Uebersax and Bhend designed the eV Electric Wheelchair to be a bicycle for people with paraplegia.
