The co-creator of 'Android,' Andy Rubin, has unveiled his long awaited modular cell phone the 'Essential Phone'.
The driving force behind this product is the idea that smartphones can be future-proof if they are able to be updated and added to part-by-part as the newest technology arrives.
The back of the phone has magnetic pins that attach the accessories to the phone so the device is completely cordless. Upon release, the Essential Phone has two accessories available on the market; a 360 degree camera and a charging dock. Essential Phone plans on its next release being a voice assistant for the home called the 'Essential Home' speaker which will function in a similar way to Amazon's Echo.
Motorola currently has a modular smartphone on the market. Those who have taken this path with smartphone development in the past have found that consumers are not interested enough in this technology to step outside of trusted brands for their smartphone needs. Though the hope is that Andy Rubin's new device will change their minds.
