Researchers from the University of Tokyo have created an inexpensive but surprisingly durable e-paper display that can be written on like a magnet. The technology is based on 1970s twisting ball displays, that use bicolored microparticles that move around on an elastic sheet when sandwiched between a pair of electrodes.
This upgraded version is easily scalable, while its color combinations can be conveniently changed for improved readability. The easy scalability means this e-paper display could replace traditional blackboards in classrooms and lecture halls.
Given its versatility and ease of use, this e-paper display could also go a long way towards reducing our dependence on paper, helping the environment by saving trees as well as reducing paper waste.
